#l T Finance Holdings (LTFH) reported an eight per cent increase in consolidated net profit at ₹207 crore in the reporting quarter ended June 30, as against ₹192 crore in the year-ago period.

LTFH, which is promoted by promoted by Larsen Toubro, has seven wholly-owned subsidiaries — L T Finance, L T Infrastructure Finance Company, L T Investment Management, L T Capital Markets, L T Housing Finance, Family Credit Ltd, and L T FinCorp.

The financial holding company said consolidated net profit to shareholders (after considering dividend on preference shares on pro-rata basis) was up 21 per cent to ₹175 crore (₹145 crore in the year-ago quarter).

Overall loans and advances grew 17 per cent year-on-year to ₹57,736 crore ( ₹49,218 crore as on June 30, 2015).

“This growth was led by disbursements in housing finance, operational projects in renewable energy, microfinance and two-wheeler finance,” said LTFH in a statement.

As per regulatory requirements, LTFH has started recognising non-performing assets (NPAs) at 120 days of delinquency.

Gross NPAs reduced from 5.45 per cent as on June 30, 2015, to 4.58 per cent of book at the end of the current quarter. Net NPAs reduced from 4.43 per cent to 3.13 per cent.

In the investment management business, average assets under management for the quarter grew 28 per cent y-o-y to ₹28,404 crore.

Meanwhile, the company said Dinanath Dubhashi has been elevated as Managing Director. Earlier, he was Deputy Managing Director.

TLS 1.2 and .NET Support: How to Avoid Connection Errors

After I read more about SSL and Transport Level Security (TLS), I understood that not all HTTPSs are created equal. HTTPS relies on a family of lower level security protocol implementations called transport level security (TLS), each using different cryptographic algorithms. TLS standards keep developing and improving. At the moment TLS 1.2 is a latest encryption standard powering SSL and TLS 1.3 is in works. In general, anything that is using TLS standard below TLS 1.2 is considered to be non secure because these older encryption algorithms are known to be cracked.

Apparently, the provider of the API I was trying to call disabled all other security protocols except for TLS 1.2. That was reason I was getting the error.

So, why didn t .NET framework support TLS 1.2 in my case? Well, that was because my application was using .NET 4.0. In .NET 4.0 default transport level security standard is TLS 1.1. The solution for my problem was to upgrade my application to the latest .NET framework: 4.6.1. In this framework version TLS 1.2 is a default cryptographic standard.

But what if you can t upgrade your application to latest .NET framework and still want to use TLS 1.2? Solutions exist, but they vary depending on the framework version:

  1. .NET 4.6 and above. You don t need to do any additional work to support TLS 1.2, it s supported by default.
  2. .NET 4.5. TLS 1.2 is supported, but it s not a default protocol. You need to opt-in to use it. The following code will make TLS 1.2 default, make sure to execute it before making a connection to secured resource:
  • .NET 3.5 or below. TLS 1.2 is not supported (*) and there is no workaround. Upgrade your application to more recent version of the framework.
  • P.S. For scenario #3 there is also a registry hack which forces 4.5 to use TLS 1.2 by default without enforcing it programmatically.

    P.P.S. As Christian Pop from Microsoft mentioned below, there is a recent patch available for .NET 3.5 which is enabling TLS1.2 support.

Obviously, I m a little late to the game here, but, if I upgrade to 4.6+ will the framework automatically switch to the lowest common denominator (maybe they currently only support 1.1, etc ) or am I back to square one with now having to explicitly state Tls1.1?

    I have a VB project (part of a Visual Studio 2013 solution) which targets .NET 4. The remote server to which the app sends a web request has stopped supporting TLS 1.0 (which is the default in .NET 4) so the app stopped working, with exactly the same error message expressed at the top of this article. Rather than change the .NET target, I added the line of code as follows:-

    System.Net.ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = DirectCast(3072, System.Net.SecurityProtocolType)

    This appears to have done the trick.

    I have my application in .net 4.5. I want to enable TLS 1.2 in this application. I have upgrade application version from v4.5 to v4.6 after I checked my connection with the salesforce its giving error UNSUPPORTED_CLIENT: TLS 1.0 has been disabled in this organization.Please use TLS 1.1 or higher when connecting to Salesforce using https. .

    If I stay on the v4.5 and used the line ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = SecurityProtocolType.Tls12; then it work fine.
    My client want to enable tls1.2 with upgrade v4.5 to v4.6 and we know .net v4.6 support tls 1.2 by default meand no need to extra work.
    but in my case its tls1.2 not working even I change my framework version with v4.6.
    I am using visual studio 2015 updated 2 version.

    we have an app running in .NET 4.5, using Tls 1.2, everything works ok
    we have a similar app running in .NET 2.0 that needed to use Tls 1.2. And we got it working using this line of code: ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = (SecurityProtocolType)3072;
    So my question is, how can this work in the .NET 2.0 version of the application?

    One of the most important tasks of a network administrator is to monitor the health of our networks, learn how our bandwidth is being used, what applications are consuming it, when it needs upgrade Although monitoring protocols like SNMP and SPAN (port mirroring) can help us answer some questions but they are not enough to give us an insightful view of our networks. Luckily we have another amazing tool: NetFlow!

    NetFlow is a networking analysis protocol that gives the ability to collect detailed information about network traffic as it flows through a router interface. NetFlow helps network administrators answers the questions of who (users), what (application), when (time of day), where (source and destination IP addresses) and how network traffic is flowing.

    Let s take an example! In the topology below, when traffic from Network 1, 2, 3 passes through the interfaces of a NetFlow enabled device, relevant information is captured and stored in the NetFlow cache. NetFlow collects IP traffic information as records and sends them to a NetFlow collector for traffic flow analysis.

    + NetFlow Monitor. a component applied to an interface and collects information about flows. Flow monitors consist of a record and a cache. You add the record to the flow monitor after the flow monitor is created. In the topology above, we can apply the NetFlow Monitors to the s0/0, Fa0/0 and Fa0/1 interfaces of the router to collect traffic information of these interfaces
    + NetFlow Exporter. aggregates packets into flows, stores IP flow information in its NetFlow cache and exports them in the form of flow records to the NetFlow collector
    + NetFlow Collector. collects flow records sent from the NetFlow exporters, parsing and storing the flows. Usually a collector is a separate software running on a network server. NetFlow records are exported to a NetFlow collector using User Datagram Protocol (UDP)
    + NetFlow Sampler. used to reduce the number of packets that are selected for analysis. It is applied to a NetFlow Monitor to reduce the overhead load because the number of packets that the flow monitor must analyze is reduced. But notice that the accuracy of the information stored in the flow monitor’s cache is also reduced correspondingly.

    Note: The term flows here should be understood as unidirectional streams of related packets

    The most important component of NetFlow is the NetFlow Exporter (and its NetFlow cache) so we will discuss more about it.

    How NetFlow Exporter works

    When packets arrive at the NetFlow Exporter, each of them is inspected for one or many IP packet attributes. These attributes are used to determine if the packet is unique or similar to other packets. If it is similar then it is classified as in the same flow.

    There are seven key IP packet attributes that can be used by NetFlow to classify packets into separate flows:
    + IP source address
    + IP destination address
    + Source port
    + Destination port
    + Layer 3 protocol type
    + Class of Service (or Type of Service ToS) Byte
    + Input (Router or switch) interface

    Other attributes can be also used and they are called non-key attributes such as timestamps, packet and byte counters, TCP flag information

    After inspecting these attributes, the NetFlow Exporter condenses them into flow records and save in a database called the NetFlow cache. These flow records can also be exported to a NetFlow Collector.

    How to view NetFlow data

    There are two main methods to view NetFlow data:

    + Command Line Interface (CLI). Because the NetFlow cache is a part of the NetFlow Exporter so we can view this cache directly via the Command-Line-Interface (CLI), which is very useful for troubleshooting, with the show ip cache flow command. An example output of this command is shown below:

    + A NetFlow reporting tool. there are many tools that can collect NetFlow packets sent to the NetFlow Collector and display a comprehensive view. Below is an example of what SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer can analyze:

    Version 1: the original format supported in the initial NetFlow releases.
    Versions 2, 3 and 4 were not released.
    Version 5: an enhancement that adds Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) autonomous system information, flow sequence numbers and a few additional fields. This is the standard and most common NetFlow version. Only support IPv4.
    Version 6: similar to version 7
    Version 7: Cisco-specific version for Catalyst 5000 series switches but not compatible with Cisco routers
    Version 8: choice of aggregation schemes in order to reduce resource usage
    Version 9: support flow-record format and it is known as Flexible NetFlow technology. NetFlow version 9 includes a template to describe what is being exported. It supports extensible file export format to enable easier support. It also supports additional fields technologies such as MPLS, IPv6, IPSec, NBAR protocols, Multicast, VLAN ID

    In general, the two most important NetFlow versions are Version 5 and Version 9 which we will learn how to configure them.

    Note: NetFlow version 5 only supports monitoring inbound statistics using the ip flow ingress command while NetFlow v9 allows to monitor traffic leaving each interface via ip flow egress command.

    In the next part we will learn how to configure NetFlow version 5 9.

    I went over the Cisco document NetFlow Configuration Guide, Cisco IOS Release 15M T and the examples it had for version 9 deployment mirror the version 5 configurations here not the ones listed for version 9. I based my configs on that so my version 9 config looks like.

    PNB Housing Finance Ltd (PNBHFL) has reported a 66 percent increase in net profit for the year ended March 2016 at Rs 326 crore (Rs 196 crore). Total income for the year grew 52 per cent to Rs 2,697 crore.

    Commenting on the financial performance, Sanjaya Gupta, Managing Director, PNBHFL said that the results are encouraging and at “par with our expectations”.

    “Financial year 2015-16 has been a year of high significance as we attained the status of one of the leading housing finance companies surpassing assets under management of Rs 27,000 crore”, Gupta said in a statement here.

    Net interest margin for the year ended March 31, 2016 stood at 3.08% as against 3.21% in the previous year.

    PNBHFL is a subsidiary of Punjab National Bank. Quality Holding Investments (owned by Carlyle Group) is the other significant shareholder in PNBHFL.

    Manappuram Finance Ltd has posted a 30 per cent increase in its net profit at ₹353.36 crore in FY’16 compared with ₹271.31 crore reported in FY’15.

    Operating income stood at ₹2,360.23 crore, higher by 18.8 per cent, in comparison with ₹1,986.42 crore recorded in the previous fiscal.

    An interim dividend of ₹0.45 per share for the quarter was earlier declared in March this year. Accordingly, the board has not proposed any further dividend. Total dividend for the year amounted to ₹1.80 per share.

    V P Nandakumar, Managing Director CEO, said, “Wth this performance, we can say with conviction that we are back on the growth path. Our new businesses have done well and we look forward with optimism to the prospect of becoming a diversified NBFC.”

    The company’s consolidated assets under management also rose to ₹ 11,433 crore from ₹9,593 crore recorded in the previous fiscal year.

    The recent diversification into new business areas has gained further traction with new businesses now contributing about 12 per cent of its consolidated AUM. Microfinance subsidiary, Asirvad Microfinance Pvt Ltd, had ended the year with an AUM of ₹998.82 crore, representing a growth of 210 per cent over ₹322 crore.

    Commercial vehicle loans and mortgage-based finance (housing loans and loans against property) have contributed ₹302.52 crore to the total AUM. Their contribution in the preceding fiscal year was ₹44.80 crore.

    The LAME Project

    LAME is a high quality MPEG Audio Layer III (MP3) encoder licensed under the LGPL.

    Latest LAME release: v3.99 (October 2011)

    LAME development started around mid-1998. Mike Cheng started it as a patch against the 8hz-MP3 encoder sources. After some quality concerns raised by others, he decided to start from scratch based on the dist10 sources. His goal was only to speed up the dist10 sources, and leave its quality untouched. That branch (a patch against the reference sources) became Lame 2.0, and only on Lame 3.81 did we replaced of all dist10 code, making LAME no more only a patch.

    The project quickly became a team project. Mike Cheng eventually left leadership and started working on tooLame, an MP2 encoder. Mark Taylor became leader and started pursuing increased quality in addition to better speed. He can be considered the initiator of the LAME project in its current form. He released version 3.0 featuring gpsycho, a new psychoacoustic model he developed.

    In early 2003 Mark left project leadership, and since then the project has been lead through the cooperation of the active developers (currently 4 individuals).

    Today, LAME is considered the best MP3 encoder at mid-high bitrates and at VBR, mostly thanks to the dedicated work of its developers and the open source licensing model that allowed the project to tap into engineering resources from all around the world. Both quality and speed improvements are still happening, probably making LAME the only MP3 encoder still being actively developed.
