The direct repayment, non-standard loans market continues to be under-supplied, with those already in the market reducing their presence and further tightening their lending criteria. Real Personal Finance (RPF) has been set up to test whether we can profitably extend our reach into this market.

How Real Personal Finance works

RPF is a logical extension of the home credit model into a much larger market sector, adjacent to the weekly-collected home credit sector. It capitalises on the strengths of our home credit business, not least of which is conducting the initial assessment interview in the customer s home, with payments collected through monthly direct debit. This model responds to customers preferences for personal contact, and the home visit also means that each customer s circumstances can be individually assessed.

RPF offers larger loans than traditional weekly-collected home credit from 750 to 6,000 with typical APRs of between 60% and 70%. It has been set up within the Consumer Credit Division so it can share the home credit business s resources in particular its 350-strong office network thereby keeping overheads to a minimum. Personal Finance Managers (PFMs) work from the existing branch network and are part of the home credit area sales team. The PFM underwrites the loan at the customer s home and also handles any early arrears. This differentiates us from competitors and allows us both to convert leads quickly and to make better informed decisions as to whether, and how much, to lend.

The strategy for RPF in 2008 was to test further the business model, to establish a larger, more stable management team and to test various customer recruitment channels.

We have built a team of 58 PFMs (up from 33 at the end of 2007) managed by five Regional Managers and supported by experts in specialist areas many of whom also support the home credit business. The team many recruited externally and bringing considerable experience of this type of lending is now very stable and is becoming increasingly effective as its experience of our lending model grows.

In 2007, new business came predominantly from home credit customers who had recently paid up their loan. In 2008, we expanded our two other sources of business. We have now established relationships with a number of credit brokers which are working well and providing around 25% of business. And we have developed our direct response activity. This takes two forms: direct mail activity to home credit customers who have not renewed their loan, and various forms of internet activity including leads from the RPF and other group company websites and leads from affiliate partners websites. Direct response activity now generates 35% of our business.

The moving process was quick, and went much smoother than I would have originally imagined. If I ever move around in the bay area again, I would definitely give these guys a call!

So it really depends on the movers you get. Sergey and Yana were so friendly, hard working and humble the first move that I decided to ask SJ Professional Movers to help me move again about a month ago even though I could get cheaper rates from a company located closer to me.

Two guys show up (NOT Sergey and Lana unfortunately) and begin the process. Smooth sailing (though they are not ones for friendly chit chat) until we get to the storage facility. As Im finalizing paper work with the storage facility, they begin to unload the truck and move it into my storage unit. Well after a while, one guy (the leader) comes to me and asks me to get a ground floor unit because the elevator is too slow. I tell him no, there are none available and even if they were they are twice as expensive. So he says its going to cost more, since its going to take more time.

So after I wrap up the storage paperwork I go out to see their progress (this is maybe 30 minutes after we arrive) and barely anything s been moved and one guy is around the corner on his cell phone. They tell me how much longer its going to take and I quickly realize how expensive this is going to get. So I start working my ass off helping them move things. I swear I was the hardest working mover that day. Aside from that, they were not efficient, carrying things one at a time. They were not efficient with the elevator either, instead of alternating and handing things off, they just plodded away like zombies carrying things and taking cell phone calls.

So its payment time and this is what REALLY bugged me. Forget that I paid (i don t remember exactly but i can find out) upwards of $700 where I did most of the moving. The leader asked me for a tip! Sergey and Lana never asked, deserved a tip and got one even though they said its not necessary. These guys did not deserve a tip and he asked for one. Sweaty from the move, I told him listen, $700+ is a lot more than I expected to pay for this move but here s $20 dollars, split it with your buddy. HE THEN says make it $40, 20 for my buddy and 20 for me. WTF. I told him no.

Unfortunately, my good experience with Sergey and Lana is not enough for me to ever consider using these guys again. I will not subject myself to risk getting these guys again.

And to top it off, when I returned to clean my loft, I found 3 glass shelves they forgot to pack. So I had to drive 40 minutes one way back to the storage facility.

If you re the manager and care, I m sorry that this information took this long to get to you but I d consider that these guys represent you and what that means.

If you re the manager and don t care, no problem I won t use you guys again.

If you re wondering whether or not to use SJ Professional Movers and are reading this, you have to make your own decision but I ve personally had such contrasting experiences with the variable being who actually shows up at my door.

There was about three weeks left until we had to move all of the equipment from my friend s office space into a new building due to renovations needed to be performed. The landlord had kindly left us a notice but we had not considered it until it was nearly time to move out, however we were lucky enough to get into contact with these guys who are still willing to help out. We contacted them sometime about a month ago and they sent out a team of movers to our location within the same day, very nice group of workers and we left them each a generous tip for their hard work. Thank you to all of you who helped us out in this complicated process.

I requested a quote on March 4th using the link that was provided through Yelp. I received a message back requesting that I supply my email address so that I could receive a quote.
I replied back on March 5th with my email address.
As of today, March 7th, I still have not received a quote or other response from them.
I won t be using them for my move.
